Passion Project Intent

I am passionate about sports. Because of this, I would like to create a project that would help the less fortunate be able to go to a college or professional level sports game. By the end, I hope to discover what it will take to do a project like this. Right now, I believe the best medium to present this project would be a PowerPoint or a poster board. To begin my project, my first step is to research information on different fundraisers, costs of tickets, and different less fortunate groups of people.

Mission Statement



My mission is to reach out and touch the lives of less fortunate people in a special way. I want to be able to take them to a sporting event where they can watch and enjoy the experience. [Vision] With this project I would like to give these people the most relaxing and comfortable way to enjoy the game. This includes good quality transportation, acceptable seats, and refreshments. I hope to give them the best experience I can. [Values] I want to do this to let other people enjoy my passion of sports in a great way. [Purpose]

Process Paper

In my project, I figured out the best type of game to take my group of people to was a baseball game. I knew it would be the cheapest and the most suitable for the time period. When I chose baseball I had only one more thing to find out. What baseball game could I take these people to? To start I looked at the hometown Baltimore Orioles and their spring training schedule. I checked the prices and locations, to see how feasible the plan was. After seeing that most of their games took place in Florida I turned to the collegiate level. This was another way to get these people a way to enjoy sports. I limit my choices to Baltimore County schools. During this process I eventually chose the Community College of Baltimore County. Once I chose this school I obtained more information on it, so I would have the complete background of the school.  Succeeding this, I checked to see if the address I had was right, to ensure that I would be going to the correct place. Information like address was crucial for the completion of my project. Later on I researched people that had to do with the athletic department. Throughout this process I found the Administer of College Athletics. I knew I would need to talk to someone. I would do this to get their insight on the project, let them tell me anything to help, and guide me through anything that they could. The final step was to check the schedule to see what game my group would attend. I did this to have a set out date that I could take them to the game. Although I knew the best median to take these people was a baseball game, I had to know which exact baseball team that had a game I could take them to.

Reflection

1.My project was to get a less fortunate group of people to either a professional or collegiate level sports game. My medium to present this project through was a PowerPoint on my process and a hand-selected YouTube video having to do with my project.

2. I learned that it takes a lot of planning and preparation to take people to a game. It can become more than just choosing a date and attending. You must get transportation situations worked out. You must also make time for the event, let people no far in notice, and have all supplies.

3. I learned that PowerPoint proved to be an excellent way to present my project. I was able to detail my process. my YouTube video was an average medium.

4. I solved the problem of not being able to attend an Orioles game in Florida by choosing to attend a CCBC game in Maryland. I got someone to hear my project (thus solving the problem of questions) by e-mailing the Athletics Administrator of CCBC.

5.I wasn't able to actually take a less fortunate group of people. Instead I took my brother to share the experience with someone and continued the PowerPoint on how I could have done it. I was not able to take this group because I did not e-mail Mr.Witkop (CCBC Administrator of College Athletics) early enough and I had confusion on the group I was taking.

6. First I would immediately start worrying about the group of people to take rather than the person I would contact. I got mixed up trying to do these two steps at the same time basically. I would set out a group of less fortunate people I'd take long before and work from there. I would also widen the range of more than just less fortunate people to make it easier to find a group. After getting however many people, I would determine if I would need a bus or if my parents' transportation would suffice.

7. In order to make the project more effective I could have made the PowerPoint more appealing. More interactive effects could possibly make it more interesting. Also really taking this group would have made much more of an effective project. Lastly, I could have chose a YouTube video for the end that had more to do with my specific project.

8. If I could grade my self, I would give myself a grade between 79-85. I would say this because I was not able to fully obtain my goal of taking a less fortunate group so there was room for improvement. However, I believe that the detail of my process on the PowerPoint somewhat made up for it. The pictures and text was good. Some points could have been taken off for my YouTube video being partially off-topic. So overall I believe I got around the C-B range in grades.
